Located in Cayo, Belize
Buena Vista Farms is an approximate 1000 acres working ranch in the scenic and productive Mopan - Macal upper river valley in the Cayo District. It is only a fifteen minute car drive from the towns of San Ignacio or Benque Viejo. Located within the property is the Buena Vista del Cayo Maya site, one of the better protected and little known sites in the country.
Extensive archaeological studies have been carried out under the Mopan - Macal Triangle Project. Initially under the direction of Joseph Ball and Jennifer Tascheck and more recently by Jason Yeager, Professor and Chair of the Anthropology Department from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
The horseback and nature trails are an amazing and wonderful experience providing magnificent views of the Mopan valley, Mopan river and the Buena Vista Maya site. The horse trail and archaeological site visit takes an approximate two hours.
We invite you to join us in this wonderful experience of the Belizean outback and learn about our indigenous ancestors, the Maya's who inhabited this site an approximate 3000 years ago!
